Okay time for beginners to learn! Here are some tips to becoming a real editor!
1. Start with something easy and be patient.
Patience is the editor's best friend, rushing things never gives out the wanted results. Therefore don't jump into complicated transitions and effects just yet, you need a base to build up on. You have all the time to improve and find your style so be patient and don't overwork yourself, none of us is born taught, we all started from the zero and developed our own styles and ideas. But yet again that takes time, so prepare yourself and go! Sometimes the editing program/app itself will test your patience so be ready for that as well.
2. Use slower audios with less beats.
As a beginner that let's assume is literally just starting with editing, I'd recommend you pick easier audios to work with, since getting your edit onbeat is a big deal around here! When the audio is slower you'll be able to kind of get used to the editing process and to listen for the audio's beats. Once you feel fully comfortable with the program/app you've chosen you can move on to faster songs with more beats and challenge yourself a bit more!
3. Experiment!
Experimenting is the fastest and easiest way to learn and find your style, so don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try out new things from time to time. Besides if you never try something new your edits become repetitive and you don't want that. Watch tutorials or watch edits and try to figure out how to do the transitions you like yourself, test your knowledge and creativity, which brings us to our next point.
4. Be as creative as possible.
Coming from a person that can't be creative for the love of God but try to always have something creative in your edits, whether it is a transition, effect, text, overlays, anything! Make your edit look unique, go crazy, express yourself through editing and just do your best, simple edits are always nice but people pay more attention to something that stands out after all.
